When I look at the vSphere Basic System Administration manual to understand how to migrate a virtual machine, there are 4 different methods identified:

a. Cold migration (migrated a vm(power-down or suspended) between hardware hosts.)

b. VMotion/hot migration (the vm continues to operate during the migration between hosts.)

c. Storage VMotion (the vm continues to operate during the migration between datastores.)
